File Island and the Dark Masters

File Island was saved once. What was stopped was only the beginning.

Machinedramon, MetalSeadramon, Puppetmon and Piedmon loom over File Island, fragmented by the Digital World's green signal.
Four shadows ruled beneath the island.

The first chapter

The adventure you remember really happened. The DigiDestined beat Machinedramon and File City was rebuilt. It was one chapter of a bigger story. Machinedramon was one of four Dark Masters, and the other three still rule beneath the island.

This time the whole island is coming apart at once, so the call went out to many, not to one chosen hero. File City is full of other DigiDestined who answered it.

Who speaks

A weak voice reaches you through the Digital World's own system, pleading and breaking up, holding on as long as she can. Leomon is her partner. Together they're trying to save the Digital World, and he's the one who meets you at the Guild.

Every Crest you recover makes her signal stronger, and a new message comes through.

SkullGreymon, an Echo, rising out of the dark

Old foes, harvested

Copies of the bosses from your first adventure guard every zone. Each one can drop a Crest.

The eight Crests glowing over File Island

Recover the eight Crests

Every Crest raises how far your partner can grow, and makes the voice's signal stronger.

Andromon in a factory lit green

Explore seven zones

Seven zones open as your rank grows, from the Trial Grounds to Factorial Town and beyond.

The Tag

Your first jobs, from ModokiBetamon in lower town, show you around the Guild: the Board, travel and the other players. Then comes the Trial Grounds and the first Echo, WaruSeadramon, a copy of a foe from your first adventure. Beat it to earn the Tag, the device that holds Crests, and the rest of the island opens up.

Leomon knows what the Echo means. Someone is harvesting the data of defeated foes.

Rank and Crests

Rank goes up with everything you do. It unlocks zones, services, contract slots and the Partner Box.

Crests only drop from bosses. Each one raises your Limit Break ceiling by 1,125 per stat, and all eight take it to 9,000. Crest levels also increase what a fallen partner passes on to the next, and each Crest unlocks a colour theme for your look.

The eight Crests

Account-bound · never sold

The first time you beat a boss each week, you have a 10% chance of its Crest, guaranteed after twelve weeks without one. Duplicates level the Crest up: going from level n to n+1 takes n duplicates. The Dino and Great Canyon Echoes don't drop Crests but can give a bonus level instead.

Spiral Mountain

Once you hold the four region Crests (Hope, Friendship, Courage and Love), the mountain opens. The climb starts at the Machine Tier, where Machinedramon is back, rebuilt from the harvested data. Then come the Sea, the Forest and the Summit.

Light, from Piedmon at the Summit, ends the darkness.

The mountain's shadow

Each week a Dark Master's shadow falls across the island, and everyone attacks it together. When it goes down, the mountain shakes, and the week's biggest hits go on the standings.

It opens after your first Crest.

The Guild

File City and the Guild Hall

Leomon

The Guild Hall, off lower File City's south path, and upper File City. Your next step toward the Tag, the Crests and the Dark Masters. The voice's messages come through him as her signal gets stronger.

ModokiBetamon

Lower File City. Contracts, the weekly Hunt, and travel to every zone, Spiral Mountain and the mountain's shadow.

Tekkamon, the Archivist

Activities and partners

Contracts

Patrols, Wardens and Echoes from Leomon, weekly contracts that don't use a slot, and the story chapters. Rewards arrive in the game.

The Spire

Sixty floors, fought in order, with a new twist each weekly season. There's a free reward track and a Spire Pass, and your best floor goes on the standings.

Alpha hunts

Each region has one stronger, recoloured wild Digimon at a time, shared by everyone. Rumours on the Board say where to look. The first Tamer to beat it claims Bits, XP, Server Funds and loot, and your first alpha in each region each week adds Limit you never lose (from rank 30).

Expeditions and rivals

Team up in parties of two to four to clear a region within a day. Everyone fights their own battles, wins at least six there and shares the rewards. Freezeland and Factorial Town pay more, and your first expedition reward each week adds Limit you never lose (from rank 30). You can also spar against a friend's partner at the Trial Grounds.

Partner Box and collection

Park a partner between lives, track every form your partners have reached, and earn titles for your collection.

The 26 premium lines

Each line has its own look from Fresh to Ultimate. Its name and stage show in gold under your name for everyone nearby, each evolution opens your own title card, News tells everyone when you hatch it, when your line first reaches Rookie, Champion, Ultimate and Mega, when you complete it and when its life ends, and raising whole lines earns Line Keeper and Line Master. No line is stronger than another: pick the one you love.

Mystery Data and rare data

A Mystery Data egg hatches a premium Digimon from one of 26 lines, for one life. Premium Digimon live online, so play them connected. Your first egg is free from Weedmon in Jijimon's house. More come from a 2% weekly drop on alphas and bosses, or from the in-game Server Funds market. The lines need your own Digimon World 2 disc too (Get started).

Mega Data, a rare drop from Echoes, Spiral Mountain and two alphas, turns an Ultimate into its Mega and adds about two real hours of life. Each of the three Dark Masters drops its own Tier Data, which turns a Champion into that Master for one life and adds about two real hours of life. Becoming each Master the first time, and each Master life that ends in old age, adds Limit you never lose.

Server Funds

The Guild's own currency. You earn it just by playing: a daily check-in (with a streak bonus), clearing each contract for the first time, each zone's Warden once a week, and rank and collection milestones. There's a weekly cap, so there's no need to grind.

Spend it on Mystery Data, titles, a fourth contract slot, Partner Box slots and the quartermaster's supplies. It can't buy Crests, evolution items, contract completions, better odds, rerolls or retries.

Free to play

DW Online is free to play, and you never need to pay. Every Crest, title, partner, Master form and contract is earned by playing, and anything Server Funds can buy, you can buy with the Server Funds you earn. Buying Server Funds is optional. It pays for the servers and keeps development going. Thank you to everyone who does.
